  55. These are all in good condtion and still have covers, etc--which is
  56. not surprising since I never owned an ST (but I was planning on it back
  57. then).  I just can't bring myself to throw them out so I'm giving each
  58. issue away for a 9x12 SASE (use an old issue or similar sized magazine
  59. to figure the postage).  Just let me know which issue(s) you are
  60. interested in and I'll reserve it for you.  If you want the whole lot I
  61. can also work out a special deal.

  92.       Please excuse if this is a repeat, but I have had no replies.
  93. I hooked up an Amiga computer to the same printer that I have faithfully
  94. used with my 520ST.  The cable that I used was the same cable and one
  95. that I have also used with an IBM.  I thought that the Amiga ports
  96. were the same as the 520ST's ports when hooking up things like modems
  97. and printers.
  98.       Upon hooking up the printer and powering everything up, I lost
  99. both the printer and the Amiga.  The Amiga won't boot anymore and
  100. the NX 10 printer won't work with my 520ST anymore.  I have tried
  101. another cable.  Now I have fried my printer by using this Amiga junk
  102. with I thought could use regular printers.  At least my 520ST still
  103. works.  Has anyone had any problems like what I experienced?  I
  104. really thought the Amiga had standard ports.
  105.       All I wanted to do was to compare WordPerfect Amiga with
  106. WordPerfect Atari ST.

  118.   Last I heard was that certain dealers (in Australia anyway) could
  119.   sell you one, but there isn't much software available.

  125.   My specfic interest is getting the CD ROM version of the Oxford Dictionary

  128.   I noticed with interest the release of the CDTV from Commodore.
  129.   I have seen magazine articles on computer games in development for the
  130.   CDTV, that sound very impressive.
  131.   Commodore seem to be pushing this multi-media hype stuff pretty hard,
  132.   if it catches on I could be persuaded to by a CDTV for the mega games
  133.   that will be available.

  136.   It seems to me that a STE with CD-ROM and the right software could
  137.   perform similar functions.

  139.   Atari had a chance to be a front runner in this field but they may have
  140.   missed the boat. (Sounds like a familiar story/whinge?)

  144.   The ST still has quite a few advantages for me (SM124 monitor, MIDI ports
  145.   and software). I will be hanging on to it anyway.

  158. I wonder if anyone can point me to a source of a DVI driver for the ST/TT
  159. driving a HP LaserJet III printer? I have tried a Deskjet Driver but this
  160. does not work. Alternatively does anyone know where either the DVI file
  161. specification or the source code of a generic (or LaserJet!) DVI driver
  162. might be found? I can go via GHOSTSCRIPT but outputting TeX material is
  163. contorted enough already without adding further stages!

  320. I have found Laser DB to be invaluable.  It has some problems with
  321. programs which crash after allocating memory (and not deallocating
  322. it) I think, but it might have been something else.  It is fast and
  323. easy to use.

  325. They have re-written the OS-like routines that the debugger uses,
  326. such as graphics, windows and mouse handling (so as not to interfere
  327. with your program), and is therefore robust.

  356.   Well, PureC's debugger is able to be switched to VDI-mode. This means: If
  357. you want it to, it uses VDI-calls, not it's own GEM-a-like calls.
  358.   I like Turbo C, and this was the one and only point I did not appreciate.

  376.   Have aquired an IBM 0665 5.25" full-height 40 meg, MFFM, rll capable
  377.  machanism.  Attempted format with ICD's software, worked fine until verigy -
  378.  then got seek errors, tried 1,2,3,4,5 for seek rates. Adaptec 4000 controller.
  379.  Does anyone happen to know the proper parameters for this mechanism?  It was
  380.  manufactured at teh IBM plant in Rochester Mn in 1988, highest factory detected
  381.  error is head 6 cyl 683.

  417. Hmm. For some reason I thought the number was PTC 1426, but oh well.
  418. Anyway I'm not too happy with the atari mono monitor. Especially when
  419. booting up the big white screen area is a little bit blurred.
  420. Furhtermore after a while the line which is the border between the
  421. screen background and the visible image (e.g. the desktop), is partly
  422. black and partly the color of the image. The place where the transition
  423. occurs moves during time. Atari told me this is normal. However
  424. I'm not too happy about it. It doesn't look right.
  425. Also I noted that the PTC is vulnerable to interference.
  426. It seems that early versions had a metal casing inside the monitor, but
  427. the new ones dont.

  429. I rate the quality of the PTC monitor when used for monochrome less
  430. than the old SM 125 monitor for my ST. Badly enough that one cannot
  431. be used on the TT

  471. There are several places that specialize in euro imports (often for very
  472. low prices, the euro game market is very fast paced and stuff goes into
  473. the bargin bin after a few months).  One such place is Sideline Software
  474. here in FL.  Stealing is stealing, period.  If you do it, call yourself a

  528. bugs - has anyone else had problems? Firstly it did not expand wildcards
  529. and, secondly, it produced a corrupted archive which I could not subsequently

  579. think this is the prefered POSIX way cf 8.1.1 Extensions to Time

  611. I had the same problem.  My TZ is set to -0500 so that my mail and news
  612. software will generate dates that follow the most recent RFCs'
  613. recommendations against using timezone abbreviations in headers.
  614. Apparently ZOO 2.1 can't understand that format.

  616. A more serious problem, though, is that I can't get ZOO 2.1 to extract
  617. from an older ZOO archive using the x// or -restore commands. I get
  618. bus errors every time. That made it sort of hard to get thelake back
  619. on the air yesterday after a hard drive swap. This is distressing, since
  620. I've always been in the pro-ZOO, anti-LHARC camp.
